One of the most devastating forces that affect Florida regularly, hurricanes do not discriminate and do not care about the lives they crush, they just move on their path and leave devastation in their wake. One of the businesses that was left behind to rebuild the pieces after Hurricane Ian came thrashing through Fort Myers in 2022.

According to an article from WINK News, Smokin’ Oyster Brewery reopened on May 16th after suffering the devastating effects of Hurricane Ian.

“‘It shows that anything is possible,’ said Hank Leitnaker, the owner of Smokin’ Oyster Brewery.

Leitnaker described how the storm surge from Hurricane Ian in 2022 wreaked havoc on the establishment, with water levels reaching past the rafters and destroying everything inside.”

In the future, Leitnaker revealed that he intends to expand Smokin’ Oyster Brewery. “Looking ahead, the Smokin’ Oyster Brewery plans to expand with a second level, promising an atmosphere reminiscent of New Orleans meets Key West.

‘We’re going to be building a second level, so it’s going to overhang the sidewalk. It’s going to be New Orleans meets Key West type of atmosphere,’ said Leitnaker.”

Smokin’ Oyster Brewery reopened on Friday, May 16th at 340 Old San Carlos Boulevard on Fort Myers Beach. The dive bar and brewery has at least two of their beers available on-site – Lazy Dayz IPA and High Tide Lager.

About Smokin’ Oyster Brewery
The Smokin’ Oyster Brewery was originally an old Florida home that was renovated and established in 1997. Today, it’s a Fort Myers Beach icon that is loved and by many. Since the first oysters on the half shell where served, many have visited and enjoyed SOB.’s Island atmosphere and great vibes.

We love hearing the laughter and seeing the smiling faces of our locals, our winter residents and those stopping in for their first visit.
