Orlando’s Deadwords Brewing writes closing chapter

Orlando’s Deadwords Brewing Company, a local favorite and GABF Medal-winning brewery, has announced that they will close their location on Orange Blossom Trail in the Parramore neighborhood at the end of April 2024.

According to an article published March 6th by WFTV, the relative newcomer to the Orlando beer scene has announced that due to “several months of negotiations with the brewery’s landlord and the inability to reach a feasible arrangement to enable the brewery’s continued operation at its current location,” the brewery said in a news release. “From the outset, Deadwords Brewing embarked on its journey amid the unprecedented global COVID-19 pandemic, facing immense challenges including massive delays, cost overruns and the slow implementation of the Parramore Main Street development program.”

Deadwords Brewing message boardDeadwords had previously filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection in November 2023, but remained open through the process and promised to continue making beer. “Deadwords: Filed on Oct. 1, listing between $500,000-$1 million in assets and $1 million-$10 million in liabilities. The brewery opened in 2022 and has an Orlando taproom near Camping World Stadium. It remains open,” according to the Orlando Business Journal article from the same time.

Deadwords became known for their embrace of historical and modern beer styles alike as well as their spacious taproom and eclectic decor, including a large message board reminiscent of those in a train station or bus stop, which would change messages regularly with announcements and fun facts about beer and beer history.

“While short-lived, the success of Deadwords Brewing is as much a testament to the spirit and passion of our guests as it is to the quality of our beer and the dedication of our team,” the release said. “Your support has been the light during the most challenging times, and for that, we are eternally grateful.”

The same release cites April 27th as the closing day for Deadwords Brewing. The brewery also said that all merchandise will be liquidated with updates coming in the future in that regard.

Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company announces brewer change

Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company, an independent craft brewery and tasting room in Orlando, Fla. is announcing a change in the head brewer role with Eric Van Wormer being promoted and Amanda Mailey moving on to another opportunity.

“It is definitely bittersweet news to announce,” CEO and Founder, Glenn Closson mentioned.  “We wish the best to Amanda on her new endeavors and are excited to see what Eric does while at the helm in the brewery.  We know he is ready to take it on and has been for a while.”

Ivanhoe Park changes brewers

Amanda came from Red Cypress brewing and took on the head brewer role back in August 2019 and has been brewing some award-winning beer alongside Eric, who was at the lead brewer role.  Eric is no stranger to leading a team and is excited for the opportunity to take charge in the brewery.  Jonathan will be stepping up to fill that role and we have some great staff that will be assisting where needed to keep things moving forward smoothly.

Located in Ivanhoe Village, one of Orlando’s Main Street districts, the brewery has been open since Summer 2018 and entered distribution later that year in Central Florida with City Beverages.  That distribution partnership has grown and allowed Ivanhoe Park Brewing Co. to work with Wayne Densch, Inc and newly added Bernie Little Distributors to expand their market reach.  They are looking to add a few more distributors soon, as they expand statewide in the Florida market.

About Eric Van Wormer
Eric joined the Ivanhoe Park Brewing Co. brew team back in April 2019.  He has been a huge part in recipe creation and brings a lot of experience from prior breweries, locally in Central Florida, as well as in Austin, Texas.  Born and raised in Orlando, he started with home brewing in 1994 and won numerous medals in home brew competitions in Texas and Florida.  A lot of his 22 years of brewing experience came from Texas where he attended various industry courses with a lot of the local breweries that helped him work directly with a lot of other brewers.  His leadership comes from overseeing and managing companies throughout his lifetime.
